2ND FACE mastermind Vincent Uhlig has far surpassed the huge expectations stoked by the acclaimed debut album "Nemesis" with his sophomore full-length "utOpium". The certified German sound magician has created a multi-layered masterpiece that does not just feed pure ear-candy to audiophiles as any headphone-test will confirm, but also thrills with excellent songwriting and lyrical depth. The sound of "utOpium" is highly transparent and detailed yet at the same time aggressive and powerful, which perfectly fits the industrial genre, in which 2ND FACE operate and push the limits. Uhlig has invested five years of blood, sweat, and tears into this monster of an album. His work displays an obvious respect for industrial scene. The darkness of the Belgian school has left an audible mark in the sound of 2ND FACE yet also notes of SKINNY PUPPY, and even a knife tip of avant-garde pioneers TOOL. While referencing the industrial tradition, Uhlig also steers his own course, which for example manifests in his use of an EMS Synthi AKS and PPG-300 modular system inherited from his father – the krautrock pioneer Wolf-Rüdiger Uhlig (MURPHY BLEND, HANUMAN). Lyrically, "utOpium" takes a deep dive through the human mind and embarks on a philosophical journey to self-awareness. 2ND FACE also hold a a subtle mirror to society, which is fragmenting while collectively opting for (social) media self-hypnosis in the face of climate change and war. 2ND FACE were conceived by Vincent Uhlig in the German city of Mainz, capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate, in 2014. The 2017 debut full-length "Nemesis" was widely regarded as a "newcomer of the year" and did not only receive much praise from critics but also sold particularly well. With the EP "Nihilum", 2ND FACE confirmed their exceptional talent and status as fast-rising new stars on the industrial sky. Notwithstanding its formal meaning, "Nemesis" is an industrial electro album that makes for an intensive listening experience. Believe it or not, it's only the debut of 2nd Face from Frankfurt, Germany, but upon listening, it becomes obvious how classy they already are. Though tracks like 'Divine', 'Movement' or the title song may hark back to the Canadian school of trailblazers Skinny Puppy and Frontline Assembly, the compositional quality speaks for itself. Thanks to his multi-layered approach, 2nd Face mastermind Thorn easily blends rattling sequences of considerable heaviness with club compatibility. The album sounds both profound and tight, not least because the man is currently working towards becoming a professional studio engineer. On "Nemesis", he juggles an arsenal of synthesizers both more than 40 years old and modern.

Lyrically, Thorn tackles extreme situations and violence while always focusing on that which happens to us beyond this everyday drag - between the lines, so to say…

That this album, due out on February 17, will be one of the top newcomer releases in 2017 is a safe bet!

With his 2017 debut "Nemesis", 2̵n̵d̵ f̷a̶c̴e̷ was newcomer of the year amongst many dark industrial fans. Likewise, the media praised Vincent Uhlig's project for its compelling music, a hybrid of old and new school industrial with an excellent sound. The latter stems from the fact that the studio crack from Mainz, Germany, is a professional engineer, working with an arsenal of current synthesizers as well as models that are 40 years old.

Now his new EP may be titled "Nihilum", meaning "nothing", yet don't be mistaken: The a-side, contained in two versions is a consummate burner, uniting harsh basses with acoustic samples and compelling vocals. Club drive meets intense drama, raising expectations for the forthcoming studio album.

The other three tracks 'Long Live Humanity', 'Nuclear Winter Is Coming' and 'Blind Wanderer' seem controlled in comparison, but no less show how the artist has progressed: Uhlig proves to be stylistically more diverse than his first record made you believe. 2̵n̵d̵ f̷a̶c̴e̷'s second strike will be even deadlier!
