What is reality? This fundamental question has haunted philosophers, scientists, and artists throughout the centuries. With the arrival of virtual reality, this thought experiment has only become even more urgent and maybe even essential for humankind's survival. Who better to give a devious artistic answer to this conundrum than Belgian dark electro duo MILDREDA with their monumental double album "Realities"? Mastermind Jan Dewulf is exceptionally qualified for this task among his peers as the Belgian musician holds a degree in philosophy. While the previous album "Blue-Devilled" explored hell as defined by French existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre, the amused voice of Albert Camus whispers through the tracks of "Realities". In tune with their deeply human subject, MILDREDA deliver their most emotional album to date. The band introduces colours and emotions rarely associated with a genre defined by cold, hard electronics. The Belgians are pushing their sound markedly beyond the traditional boundaries of dark electro. Although, Canadian EBM influences remain audible as well as additional Belgium sonic flavour, MILDREDA again break into new musical dimensions. The Belgians also gave extra space to include prominent guest vocals from a compatriot, SUICIDE COMMANDO's Johan Van Roy, and Constantin "Breñal" Warter of German cult act CALVA Y NADA fame. With "Realities", MILDREDA do not only deliver their most ambitious and innovative album both lyrically and musically yet, but also their most accessible record so far. Check it out!
MILDREDA are spellbound by the devil! The Belgian electro shooting stars are possessed to the point that their sophomore physical full-length with the tell-tale title "Blue-Devilled" turns out to be a concept album hell but as the one defined by French existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre, which is reflected in the eyes of other people. This idea is a recurrent theme in many tracks of the album. Musically, "Blue-Devilled'' turns out to be more varied than its direct predecessor "I Was Never Really There". There are more melodies and more shades to be found in the new tracks. Canadian EBM influences are still audible as well as the touch of Belgium sonic flavour. Yet the new broader and more open sound reveals MILDREDA's true colours. In 1995, the 16 year old Jan Dewulf self-released his first full-length tape "II Castrato" under the MILDREDA banner. His raw first effort was soon followed by a second cassette entitled "De Laffe Denker" in 1996, which got widely copied and circulated in electro circles. MILDREDA gained a strong following and excellent reputation in the Belgian scene and beyond, which led to live performances sharing stages with such renowned acts as PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE, TERMINAL CHOICE, COVENANT, VNV NATION among many others. Despite his early success, Dewulf felt discontent with the business side of the scene and put MILDREDA on hold. In following years, he took a degree in philosophy and also started a new project under the moniker DISKONNEKTED, which focused more on dance influences. MILDREDA continued to grow even during their absence by word of mouth. Dewulf came back to his love for dark electronic sounds with the digitally released 'Coward Philosophy' in 2016. His first physical album "I Was Never Really There" in 2021 brought MILDREDA back to the spotlight of the electro scene. "Blue-Devilled" both musically and lyrically marks another huge milestone in the career of MILDREDA. The Belgians are back to prove that even in a philosophical hell, the devil still writes all the best tunes!
MILDREDA detonate onto the dark electro scene with 11 massive tracks on their physical debut album that breathe new life into this genre. "I Was Never Really There" comes solidly based on the spirit of the 90s and takes influences from both Belgium EBM legends such as THE KLINIK as well as from such Vancouver giants as SKINNY PUPPY and FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY. Yet the album's crushing sound comes state-of-the-art 2021 with LEÆTHER STRIP's Claus Larsen signing responsible for the excellent mastering. "I Was Never Really There" offers an amazing variety of songs ranging from the big electro ballad 'Dream Machine' via a mid-tempo club-hammer such as 'Liaisons Dangereuses' to an explosive firework of adrenaline infused power-tracks. To top this delicious brew off, remarkable guest appearances add extra spice to MILDREDA's all over tasty record: 'Erased' features a production collaboration with NUMB's Don Gordon, and even Jan's original "muse" Dirk Ivens (THE KLINIK) and Cyan from THE ETERNAL AFFLICT contribute to this album with their distinct vocals. MILDREDA are the brainchild of Jan Dewulf. In the early 90s at the tender age of 15 years, Jan got so entirely hooked by compatriots such as THE KLINIK with their cold and oppressive type of sound typical for the Belgian cult acts of this period that he borrowed a keyboard from a friend and spent his holidays washing dishes at a pizza place to afford some studio gear. Jan's self-released tape "II Castrato" (1995) and particularly the second cassette entitled "De Laffe Denker" from 1996 got widely copied and handed around in electro circles. MILDREDA gained a strong following and excellent reputation in the Belgian scene and beyond, which led to live performances sharing stages with such renowned acts as PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE, TERMINAL CHOICE, COVENANT, VNV NATION, and many others, before Jan Dewulf decided to put the project on hold and focusing on DISKONNEKTED instead. Encouraged by none other than Dirk Ivens, who personally asked Jan to revive MILDREDA at a party and by continued underground support, Jan Dewulf returned with his third full-length, the digitally released 'Coward Philosophy' in 2016. His deep love for clinical dark sounds had been re-kindled. Now, MILDREDA are preparing to blast the world with their physical debut album, "I Was Never Really There", which is the collective sum of the mastermind's exponentially grown musical experience of the last decades combined with a burning desire to unleash another ripping electronic beast! Belgian dark industrial sound is coming home again!
